Locksmith Adventure: Boarding Up a Rat-Infested Garage (Pizza Included)
Every locksmith job comes with its own set of challenges, but when we were called to board up a garage on a Reading estate recently, we didn’t expect rats to be our main competitors. After spending nearly an hour trying to find the place (whoever numbered these houses must have had a wicked sense of humor), we finally arrived to face the task at hand.
The garage was a sight to behold—filled with rubbish that could have doubled as a rat’s version of a luxury apartment. The stench of rat urine and droppings hung in the air, and you could hear them partying inside as we began clearing the mess. The highlight? An electric two-seater sofa that had somehow become the rats’ VIP lounge.

Now, I’m all for a good challenge, but moving that sofa without actually touching any part of this rat palace required some creative thinking. Enter: my trusty car and a big pole. Channeling my inner demolition expert, I managed to bulldoze the thing out of the way—no rat eviction notices required.
With the rubbish cleared (and the rats now homeless), it was time to board up the garage. Measurements taken, materials sourced, and job done! The garage was sealed tight, and the rats had to find a new hangout.
After a hard day’s work, it was straight home for a slice of pizza and a self-awarded medal for “Rat Eviction Extraordinaire.”
